Massage Instructor
Target Audience
Any RN or LPN:
-interested in learning the art of infant massage
-who wants to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor/Educator
Certification Requirements
Applicants must meet the following five requirements:
-must be an RN, LPN or GN
-must complete required readings in the textbook provided, "Infant
Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents" by Vimala McClure
-Must View the 4 VHS tapes provided, "Amazing Talents of the
Newborn," "Clinical Implications of Touch," "Massage
Practice for Infants," and "The Premature Infant"
-must complete study modules
-must complete final certification examination at home within 6
months of receiving Independent Study packet
-must pass final certification exam with grade of 80% or better
In order to enroll in this program, candidates must submit a completed
application along with the $375.00 program fee. PCE supplies program
manual, textbook, films and study modules. The final examination
will be forwarded to the participant upon the completion and return
of study modules to PCE. Successful candidates receive 16 nursing
contact hours, may use the designation Certified Infant Massage
Educator (CIME) and also become members of the PCE organization.
Member benefits include educational opportunities and a bi-annual
newsletter.
Course Content
This certification program covers relevant, research-based topics
such as:
-History and research of touch
-Benefits of infant massage for newborns and parents
-Methodology of strokes
-Altering techniques for circumstances such as colic, constipation
and teething
-The premature infant
-Massage for children as they grow
-Program design
Continuing Education Credits
Successful candidates receive 16 contact hours. "Provider
is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider
Number CEP 13154 for 16 contact hours."
Tuition Cost
The complete certification course is $375.00 which includes program
book, textbook, films, study modules and certification exam.
Refunds
No refunds issued after course materials have been shipped.
Recertification
PCE certification is valid for 3 years. Applicant must acquire 18
contact hours of continuing education credit related to maternal
child health for recertification.
