Childbirth Educator

Target Audience
Any RN or LPN:
-interested in teaching childbirth education
-who wants to become a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCE)

Certification Requirements
-Must be a RN or LPN
-Complete written assignment (2 one-page essays are assigned at registration)
-Attend 2 day PCE course
-Observe one full series of childbirth classes before attending the course (if you've never taught childbirth education)
-Pass certification examination based on the information covered in the course

This 2 day certification program will cover pertinent topics such as:
-Historical background of childbirth education
-Pain management theories
-Coping techniques including various relaxation methods, breathing patterns, and comfort measures
-Prenatal exercises
-Pushing techniques
-Role of the labor support person
-Teaching strategies
-Adult learning theory applied to childbirth education
-Curriculum development
-Childbirth education as a business

Program Hours
Each program day will start at 8:30 AM and run to 4:30 PM - includes continental breakfast. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

Faculty
PCE instructors are experienced in all areas of maternal child health and perinatal education. Our faculty is committed to providing quality continuing education by meeting or exceeding the competencies and program guidelines for perinatal education as determined by AWHONN.

Continuing Education Credit
This course is approved for 16 contact hours by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. "Provider is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 13154 for 16 contact hours."

Tuition Cost
The complete certification course is $375.00 which includes the $75.00 non-refundable registration fee. Tuition must be paid in full 3 weeks prior to start of course. Add an additional $25.00 for late registration.

Refunds and Cancellations
To receive a refund (does not include non-refundable $75.00 registration fee) cancellation must be received in writing at least three (3) weeks prior to scheduled course date. Refunds will not be given after course has begun. PCE will accept substitutions for registrants only if the PCE office is notified at least 5 days prior to the course. PCE reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient registration or other circumstances beyond our control. A full refund (course tuition only) will be given if such a cancellation does occur.

Recertification
PCE certification is valid for 3 years. Applicant must acquire 18 contact hours of continuing education credit related to maternal child health to receive recertification and maintain the designation of CCE.
